Taking New Territory

We have been praying the Jabez Prayer from 1 Chronicles 4:10, a portion of which asks that God would enlarge our border or territory.

GOOD NEWS!!

We have just been given full access to the south wing of the school building - a space of more than 10,000 square feet. This wing has seven classrooms; three of which we will now be able to paint and equip for Kidz Alive and Youth. This is so exciting!

To celebrate this expansion of our territory, we are devoting or next SECOND SATURDAY event in September to "rehabbing" this portion of our Gadsden campus.

Isaiah 58 Food Bagging

Each month we receive our truck load of food to be distributed throughout the month. [Wednesdays @ 5 PM]
To this point we have utilized a Wednesday night to do this but due to an increase in Wednesday night activities, we have moved our monthly bagging to a Monday.

Our next bagging will occur Monday, August 29 at 6 PM. It takes many volunteers to bag groceries for 400 families. Please join us and bring a friend if you can.

We move all the chairs and do our bagging in the Worship Space. After all the boxes are cleared and all the food is put away in bins for distribution, we mop all the floors and set up chairs. So you can see the need for many volunteers.

SABBATH 2011

Don't forget that at WordAlive we take the month of July as a Sabbath month. This means that there are no services or activities. Our last service before Sabbath is Sunday, July 3. We will hold the service at Noccalula Falls. We have a pavilion reserved from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. We will hold a brief service for everyone at 11:00 am. We will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the fixin's. We will also have plenty of home-made icecream to cool us all off!

After the Sabbath, our first event back will be Wednesday, July 27. We will receive our Isaiah 58 food order on that day and will begin bagging the food at 6 PM.

Sunday, July 31 will be our first Sunday back from Sabbath. We will be kicking off a brand new message series called SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS. Each message will deal with themes presented in 4 major summer movies. It will be an exciting time.

Wednesday, August 3 we will hold a CARE FAIR for those in need. We will be offering school supplies, food and clothing. This begins at 6 PM. Please make plans now to join us in the ministry opportunity.

THE WAY Outreach Restarts at Gadsden Campus

A few weeks ago we began partnering with another group in Gadsden with the same vision ours: to reach mentor a new generation of youth in Gadsden. We assisted for a few weeks in joining with other volunteers. This meant that we had to move our meeting to Tuesday evenings instead of our regular Wednesday time. We met some awesome people and developed some cool relationships within the KINGDOM. But now we are back on Walnut street at the Historic Gadsden High School Gym.

SECOND SATURDAY

Our work order for this coming Second Saturday, May 14, is pretty full so we have opportunities for MANY MANY volunteers. We will be cleaning up around the outside of the campus as well as indoors. We will also be doing some remodeling of our clothes closet and moving it to a new room. We will begin at 8:30 am and conclude at noon. Please consider volunteering just a few hours of your Saturday morning this month to make a difference at our WAIO Gadsden campus.

Join us this Saturday, April 9 at our Gadsden campus for SECOND SATURDAY. We will be going out in the community knocking on doors and sharing our services. Bring your lawnmower, rake, trimmer, etc. and make yourself available to those in need.

This is a really great opportunity to get to know those in our community who may need to hear the message of freedom. What better way to do that than to help out with a little yard work first?

We will also be doing a little work around the campus as well.

We will begin at 8:30 AM. and conclude at noon.

Great News About Youth Outreach!!

Our outreach to the inner city youth of Gadsden has taken on an expansion. We have a large community interest in reaching these youth in the same way that we have been for almost 2 years now. So to fulfill our mission to "See the church as one instead of many", we begin this week to join our efforts with a ministry called "Thirst" who has been using the gym at First Baptist in Gadsden. We are encouraged that other ministries are also beginning to join with us.

Due to this, our meeting time has changed from Wednesdays to Tuesdays at 5:30 PM. Our hope is that very soon we will have multiple gyms full of kids from 1st grade through 12. If you have been helping with this ministry, we are so grateful for you and hope that this change in time and day do not prevent you from continuing to serve. If you have never volunteered, we hope that you will take advantage of this great opportunity to effect a generation for the Kingdom of God.

What a great week for ministry! Spring is upon us and new things are budding. Can you feel it?

This week our Isaiah 58 food order arrives Wednesday at 4 PM. If you are able, come by and help us load in the food.

At 6 PM Wednesday we will begin bagging the food for distribution. This is Spring Break for some so we will need extra volunteers in place of some who will be taking their break. Come on out and join in the tremendous fellowship and invite a friend to join you.

Distribution will be Sunday at 2:00 PM. Volunteers will arrive at 1:30 to organize. This is the opportunity to touch the lives of those in need.

Our Community Dinner will be Monday, March 21 at 6PM. This is our monthly dinner with those from the community who are either homeless or poor. We invite those who can to bring your very best dish to build our meal. We have an awesome time together.

Word Alive Gadsden Prophecy

In Ezekiel chapter 36 Ezekiel is directed by God to prophecy to the mountains of Israel. It may seem like a strange thing to prophecy to an inanimate object but remember that Jesus states in Mark 11:23-24 that if we speak to a mountain and tell it to move and believe what we say, then it will be done. So on the first Sunday of this year, January 2, the congregation at our Gadsden campus began speaking to the facility that we have occupied now for just over 2 years. Following is that declaration:

A Prophecy from Word Alive to the Facility at 607 South 12^th Street, Gadsden, AL; formerly Gadsden High School.

18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." Matthew 18:18-20

We prophecy to you, Historic Gadsden High School. You once were a place teeming with youth and learning… but now you have become a place of desolation; a place of derision -mockery; a place of rejection. Those who pass by scorn you and mock you as a place deserted and forgotten.

It is because of this that we prophecy to you as Ezekiel prophesied to the dry bones: YOU WILL LIVE AGAIN. We speak to every high place and low place, wide place and narrow place; to the emptiness and hollowness of every room:

The LORD God is for you and He has turned to you that you may be tilled and sown. You shall shoot forth your branches now and yield your fruit for the sons and daughters of God. He has planted a seed within you that will multiply many sons and daughters for the Kingdom. WE ARE THAT SEED.

Many will call you “home”. The LORD will multiply people upon you. Your rooms will be filled and all your broken down places shall be rebuilt and renovated. And the LORD will multiply people and resources upon you and each shall multiply and be fruitful. The LORD will do more good to you than ever before. Then you will know that LORD is God.

We prophecy that we shall possess you as our inheritance. No longer will you be the cause of decrease for us but you shall be a place of increase. No longer will you be a frightful place to children. You shall be a place where families grow and prosper. You will no longer bear the disgrace of the people in Gadsden or Etowah County. Instead, those who pass by will say, “This place that was desolate has become like the Garden of Eden and the wasted and desolate and forgotten rooms are now renovated and inhabited. Then the cities and municipalities all around shall know that the LORD is God.

Finally, we ask, O God, just as You allowed the nation of Israel to ask; that you would increase our people like a flock. Like the flock for sacrifices during the appointed feasts, let this abandoned place be filled with people once again. And Lord of the Harvest, we see that the fields are white and ready for harvest. Send us the laborers needed for the harvesting. Please do this for Your name’s sake; that we all may know that the LORD is God.

Ice and Snow

Wow! What a week! Sunday night brought ice and snow to our area and has kept us all in for a few days. We hope everyone is staying warm and taking all safety precautions if you have to be on the highways.

Decoded Title: Youth Outreach at Word Alive International Outreach

For more that 15 months now we have devoted our Wednesday evenings at our Gadsden Campus to mentoring youth from the inner city of Gadsden. We open up the gymnasium to provide a safe place for these youth to play and interact. Our volunteers spend time developing relationships that provide for mentoring opportunities. After play, we divide into age groups and spend time engaging with Bible stories.

Week of Ministry

Although we were a bit short on volunteers for our distribution this month, those who were present experienced great joy in blessing those in need with a good assortment of items. We were able to bless more than 300 families with juice, tea, pasta, rice, cereal, canned beans, and even some sweets. We were able to deliver every door in Carver Village as we have now for several months. We are developing many new relationships there and that is exciting. Don't miss our next distribution third Sunday in January.

What a great participation of help in serving the homeless poor on Monday night! We had an awesome spread of delicious food for everyone. "Ramped" came out to DJ some "rap" for us. Then Jamie and his daughter, Kourtney, shared some beautiful Christmas tunes for worship and Pastor Mark shared an encouraging message. Three became believers in Christ! Woohoooo! Stay tuned for our next serving opportunity.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out on Thursday night to help with unloading and bagging our Isaiah 58 shipment of food for the poor. Everyone worked very hard to get everything set up for our distribution on Sunday, December 19, 2-4 PM (volunteers arrive at 1:30). Due to the inclement weather, we were unable to get our shipment on Wednesday as usual.

It is always an awesome sight to see everyone working together to prepare to help the poor.

Each month we convert our worship space into a warehouse and then back into a worship space for Sunday. It is a lot of work for sure but such a joy to know that that these bags of food display the love of God.

Little is Much When God Is In It

"Little is much when God is in it..." - lyrics from a song I grew up with. I was reminded of it recently. The Spirit has been saying to many of us in these days that it only takes a few. He has counseled me personally through discouragement so many times with the words...

"Trust me, I can do a lot with just a little."

But in the leaner times doubts still arise. Oh, please don't be shocked. Hasn't it been that way throughout time? Wasn't it Abraham - Father of Faith -who, after receiving "the promise" from God, for fear of being killed by King Abimelech, lied about Sarah being his wife? (see Genesis 18) And there are other examples. This, of course, is not to say that fear and doubt is at all profitable - simply understandable.

After closer observation, It seems that soon after the delightful promise is given there follows a moment of blissful ease that is soon after invaded by a clearly logical reason to...well, BE AFRAID. Some may describe it as the darkness before the dawn or, more crudely, the pressure in the womb just before birth. Whatever... it is scary, dark and uncomfortable.

That's exactly what it is like for a small seed - being taken from the light and placed in the dark cold earth. There is only one way to escape... to die. The death of a seed means being transformed into a stem that bursts through the darkness into the light. The rays of sunlight transform that stem into a stalk. The combination of rain, light and fertile soil produce fruit. You get my point, I'm sure.

Ezekiel 36:9 says, "For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown." We are seeds and part of our purpose is to be sown. We are small but... God is in us!! God is for us!!

We Are Not Moving Backwards!

The Spirit of God delivered a word to us on Sunday that, though it may seem that way at this time, WE ARE NOT MOVING BACKWARDS! We are ADVANCING!!

2 Kings 3 tells the story of three kings [Jehoram (son of Ahab), Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom] who traveled 7 days to battle with Moab. They found themselves weak and thirsty with no water. So they sought the prophet Elisha who gave the word of the Lord that, though they would not see wind or rain, the valley would be filled with ditches full of water. Verse 18 says, "This is a light thing in the sight of the LORD."

The next morning the water came and filled the valley where they were. Not only did the army now have water for themselves and the horses, but when the Moabite army arrived they saw the water and it appeared to them as blood. They assumed that the three kings had fought against each other. They marched right into an ambush by the armies of the three kings.

So if we think our current circumstances look like a set-back, it is really just a set-up for God to work on our behalf. Remember ALL THINGS work together for good...

Exciting Weekend of Worship & Ministry!

No doubt everyone who attended any portion of this past weekend will have some testimony of a powerful encounter with God. The worship experience was uplifting and intense while the ministry that followed was nothing short of miraculous.

One woman testified that her wrist had restricted movement due to a metal plate used to repair a severe break. After prayer she demonstrated to the crowd how her wrist was now completely unrestricted and she could no longer feel the metal plate in her wrist. Praise Jesus!!

There were many reported healings in the evening meetings as well as the Treasure Hunt. Speaking of which there were 2 salvations. About 35 were present for the Treasure Hunt and the testimonies that followed were more than exciting.

Each team was given paper to write down what they were receiving from the Holy Spirit. One team was led to McDonalds to search for someone who was grieving from a loss. The team found their "Treasure" and began ministering prophetically to them.

Many suggested we organize these Treasure Hunts more often. We really did have a lot of fun.

Bethel School of Ministry Students in Gadsden

Bethel School of Ministry Students

Friday, September 24 at 7:00 PM students from The Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Atlanta will be with us for worship and ministry. They will share testimonies of what God is doing through this awesome ministry begun by Bill Johnson. They will also be anointing the sick for healing.

Then on Saturday, September 25 those who are interested may go with us on a Treasure Hunt as we take to the streets to experience Book of Acts type ministry. We will meet together at 1:00 PM for about 30 mins of instruction then we will divide into teams, pray for direction and go where the Spirit leads to minister. We will return 90 minutes later with testimonies of God's power.

Then Saturday evening at 6:00 PM we will meet at "THE WELL" for more worship and ministry. "THE WELL" is located in the Gadsden Mall. You can enter at the rear of the mall between Sears and Premiere Cinemas.

Adam's Story

Adam is 20 years old and has no home. He has been sleeping at the Salvation Army in Gadsden. During the day Adam along with many others walk the streets looking for jobs or other assistance; hanging out at the library or other community centers to beat the heat of day. In spite of his circumstance, Adam has a heart to give. He has been learning the power of giving.

He loves to cook. So Saturday Adam took his first ever food stamp supplement and offered to BBQ lunch for all his friends, many of which are facing the same set of circumstances as Adam.

Adam was hoping to get into Job Corp; an opportunity to have lodging and meals while he gets his GED and learns a trade. He had interviewed but there was no space for him.

Unusual, but on Friday Adam was asked to come back for another interview.

Adam begins Job Corp on Tuesday! God worked a miracle for Adam. After he completes his GED he will enter culinary school.

Caring for Those With No Home

Caring for those who are homeless is becoming a huge passion at our Word Alive Campus. The Holy Spirit is stirring a growing compassion for those who are either living in shelters or on the

streets. Recently a group was led by the Spirit to begin delivering sandwiches to those without homes who visit the library and other places throughout the city to stay cool in the heat of the day.

Through this effort we are learning more and more about the needs of those without homes. We are putting resources together now to meet those needs.

One need in particular is a need to have a shower. The usual method for our friends is to wash at a local service station restroom. No more! Tuesday evening several gathered together to
sanitize the showers in the gym locker rooms. These restrooms and showers will be open to those in need each each Monday evening. We also want to provide other necessary hygiene items to our friends as well.

Backpacks are a premium item for those who have no home and stay in transit throughout the day. As a confirmation that we are hearing the Father's heart, we had 250 backpacks donated for this purpose. Below is a list of items that we will be collecting to fill those backpacks and give to our friends.

Please look over the list. Perhaps you can grab an extra item when you purchase them for yourself or maybe you know someone who could donate many items in a particular area. Anything will be helpful.

Reading Is Fundamental

READING is a fundamental skill for learning. Many youth struggle with this skill and need a caring mentor to encourage and tutor them. We have an opprotunity at our Gadsden campus to tutor "at risk" youth each Wednesday from 2 -4 PM. You can volunteer one or both hours.

"Radical" Sunday

"Radical"... that's the word we are hearing these days. It is a call for radical living... no... radical giving. It is what the Kingdom of God is all about; denying self and preferring others as better than ourselves; outdoing one another with honor (Romans 12:10).

Sunday was so inspiring! Our vision for the facility in Gadsden is to see the campus buzzing with ministry 24/7. There is so much need in our community and throughout Gadsden. We are hearing the call. We believe The Spirit is stirring creative ideas among us to meet the needs of the poor. Ideas are already coming forth.

Good Stuff Happening at Word Alive Gadsden

We had another great time with the youth at our outreach Wednesday night. This ministry is growing up and becoming more and more impactful each week. We are so excited about the leadership initiative from the volunteers. A larger vision is developing - a God-sized vision. Please consider coming by on a Wednesday night just to see what is going on in the old gym of Gadsden High. We begin registration each Wednesday at 6:00 PM.
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL
Reading is a basic skill for learning. Without it many students become frustrated and fail to reach their full potential. Many end up in some type of trouble.

We have a tremendous opportunity to tutor youth in reading and offer some level of mentorship as well. In partnership with the Gadsden City School's "Alternative School" which meets in the old Gadsen High building where we meet, we can now minister to these middle school and high school students each Wednesday from 2-4 PM. Dinner with our Friends

We had large turn-out Monday night for dinner with our friends who are homeless. We had a huge spread of great home cooked food. There was a wonderful spirit of love and family in the room. Blake brought the band out and led us in some intimate worship. We made lots of new friends. We prayed for those who were sick and encourage many others. The Spirit of God is stirring more and more compassion in our hearts for the poor. It is an awesome sight.

With our Isaiah 58 food distribution over the weekend and then the dinner on Monday (not to mention the Youth Outreach resuming this Wednesday), it has been an exciting week of ministry. Don't miss our next opportunity in September.

We have Friends Who Have No Home

It is true. We have friends in Gadsden who have no home; who are hungry and alone. To have someone to talk with and share pleasantries over a hot meal is a rare occasion for them.

That's why we are so excited to put our best dish with that of others tonight and create a spread fit for our favorite family member.

Monday night, August 23 at 6 PM we gather with our dishes and gather around to share a prayer, a meal, worship and testimony.

GREAT Day of Caring!

Sunday was a GREAT day focused on caring for those in need. After a fantastic service which included a challenging message from Pastor Kent to "receive God's grace and extend God's glory" (watch the message at http://www.wordalive.org/ ), we gave out food to many in the city. Many received prayer and were touched in various ways.

We had a very good turn-out of eager volunteers who were buzzing with excitement. I am certain that the message stirred all of us to want to act out our faith. It was a blessed and glorious day. A huge thanks to everyone for their participation and support.

Bagging Up a Blessing

We had a very nice turn-out for bagging last night as we prepared
for our distribution of food this coming Sunday. Everyone worked
very diligently to have all the food unloaded sorted and bagged
along with getting the worship space set up for Sunday's service.
All this done with lots of love for those who will receive it.

If you have never participated in this part of our "Ministry Week"
at the Gadsden Campus of Word Alive, you should know that it is
always a great time of fellowship and fun (not just work). The feeling of purpose is overwhelming.

We will have the opportunity to distribute food to hundreds of families on Sunday from 2-4 PM. Please come out and join in fun of sharing with those in need. All our volunteers will be arriving at 1:30 PM for a little organizing of labor before we begin. Not only will
we be distributing the food but we will have opportunities to pray with and encourage everyone. The presence of Christ is always very evident.

THREE great opportunites to bless those in need this week:

Wednesday evening our truck load of food will arrive for sorting and bagging. Join us at 6:00 PM in the worship space to prepare for our distribution.

Sunday at 1:30 PM all volunteers meet to find their places for service. We begin distributing food to the community at 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Monday evening we come together to share a meal with our friends in Gadsden who are homeless. Everyone is encouraged to bring their very best dish. We arrive at 6:00 PM with our food. We also have times of testimony and worship together.

Isn't it time the church focused at least as much attention on services to the least as it does services with the most?

Back to the Gym

Our first Youth Outreach after sabbath took place last night. And though it was hot and humid we had almost 50 youth from the neighborhood back along with a great showing of volunteers. Everyone had a great time.

A special thanks to those who came out on Tuesday evening to help with the clean up in and around the gym. Everything looked nice.

Next week the gym will be closed due to our monthly Food preparation night for Isaiah 58 distribution on Sunday, August 22.

The gym will reopen for Youth Outreach on Wednesday, August 25 at 6:00 PM. See you there.

YOUTH OUTREACH RESTART: Wednesdays @ 6 PM

The kids in the neighborhood are really pumped about the gym reopening for Youth Outreach this Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Last week there were several who were looking for the doors to open only to learn that we were just meeting with volunteers. But the word is out that we will be there this week!

Does anyone remember the Saturday morning cartoon, "Fat Albert". I know it probably isn't PC to say that now but, growing up on this animation, I could not help but hear a portion of the theme song ringing in my head when I saw the kids out last week. "Na, na, na, gonna have a good time, na, na, na, gonna have a good time."

I love that!

So, hey, why don't you come out and join us for a "good time" with the kids in the neighborhood.
Share some love and tell us ..."why you do your thing".

UNUSUAL SUNDAY

That's right. Things were a bit unusual on Sunday. We had a great experience of the Spirit's presence through the worship. We began to acknowledge our complete dependence on Jesus and His ability to accomplish anything. "Nothing is impossible for You, You hold my world in Your hands." Several came forward with the faith to believe for the impossible. As we began to pray for each other, there was such a powerful energy of encouragement and hope in the room (I believe that was the word that was spoken at the beginning of the service- hope). Many began to speak prophetic words of encouragement and hope to others - absolutely awesome experience.

Then, un-ordinarily, when we were to show the video of Pastor Kent sharing the second message in the series called, "Out of This World", the equipment failed. Soooo Pastor Mark picked up the mantel and began sharing instead. [Since "yours truly" is writing this post, it might not be appropriate to comment too much on just how... ANNOINTED it really was!] Seriously, it was extended encouragement.

There were some words spoken about how we should rely on the Spirit of God for wisdom rather than getting hung up on words and philosophical phrasings. Perhaps we have even looked to Biblical writings for wisdom not realizing that, without revelation from the Spirit, we are simply adding to our religious understanding. After the service someone offered this quote from Bill Johnson; "Maybe the reason we don't experience the power that the early church did is because we value a book they did not have more than the Holy Spirit that they did have."

Great Youth Outreach Volunteer Meeting

We had a great time together last night discussing new strategies for our Youth Outreach on Wednesday evenings. We discussed our objectives and even added a few. We also discussed adding to our format some new features that will help us better reach our objectives.

Next week we will open the gymnasium on Walnut street again to hundreds of youth living in the area of our Gadsden campus. If you would like to volunteer in this exciting and impactful ministry, we would love to have you join our team. Simply join us any Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.

This Wednesday at 6:30 PM we are meeting with all Youth Outreach volunteers to discuss how we can improve our efforts to encourage the youth of our community. We hope you will volunteer to be a friend and mentor to the kids and youth who come into the gym each week. Thus far we have encouraged in some way or another more than 250 kids and youth. Please consider offering a few hours a week to develop a relationship with these youngsters that could have a lasting impact.

Great First Sunday Back!

Our first Sunday back from sabbath was great! It was so good to reconnect with everyone and catch up on all that God has been saying to each of us during the break. Thanks again to everyone who help out in cleaning up the Gadsden campus for our first Sunday back.

The presence of God was very evident during the worship Sunday, led by Blake Sitz and the worship band from The Well. (The Well is a gathering spot for youth. They meet at the Gadsden Mall in the old cinema location every Saturday at 6:00 PM.) They have been a real blessing to us. They are very humble guys who want nothing more than to live in God's presence.

Pastor Kent is sharing a new sermon series called "Out of this World" and it truly was that. Sunday's message was from James 4 - "Friendship with the Lord verses Friendship with the World". If you were unable to be with us, please go to the website and take a watch.

We hope that everyone is having a relaxing and revelatory sabbath break. We are so excited to be returning to regular Sunday Services and ministries beginning Sunday, August 1. It will be so good to see everyone together again and hear of what God has been speaking to each of us.

We will have a work-day on Saturday, July 31 beginning at 8:00 AM. We will be doing some cleaning and general sprucing up of the worship space indoors and out. We can use as many volunteers as possible for just a few hours. Please consider joining us. We will be doing a little cleaning, painting, pressure washing, organizing, etc. If you have a pressure washer and would like to help out, we will be meeting even earlier (6:30 am) to do some of the outside work.

We are very thankful for the opportunity God has given us to minister in Gadsden. So much ministry has taken place since we first opened up at the former Gadsden High School. We are very grateful for the facility and continue to trust God for every opportunity.

Wednesday, June 30 we will hold another BLOCK PARTY as part of our Youth Outreach. We will be serving Homemade Ice cream to all the kids and their families. We will also have hot dogs available. Registration will begin at 6:00 PM.

We had an awesome day together. We experienced another great time of worship led by the Sitz brothers and their band from The Well. [The Well is a hang-out for youth that is open each Saturday, 6 PM at the Gadsden Mall - just inside the rear entrance near Sears.] Then Pastor Mark shared inspiration and information regarding our return in August.

He read a passage from Zechariah 2:1-6. Verse 5 says, "And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst." He went on to share the three-fold purpose of WordAlive Gadsden.

Antoher Awesome Service / Dutch Sheets Meeting

Sunday was another awesome experience in God's presence. As we began to enter into worship the Spirit of God began to minister to many hearts. We are moving toward a great season of refreshing as we go into the Sabbath rest.

Many others attended the Dutch Sheets meeting held at the Tabernacle on South 11th Street. Around 500 people met to hear a word from the Lord concerning our city and our state. However, as the meeting progress it became a time of prayer, intercession and prophetic worship. The meeting began at 6:00 PM and did not conclude until after 9 PM. We left with a strong sense that a real breakthrough in the spirit for our city had occurred.

Great Worship Experience Sunday

Well, we had our own plans for the day but The Spirit had His as well. You could feel it in the air even before the first note of music. The band began to play and The Spirit began to move like fresh air blowing in off the ocean. We began to sing, "...He loves us, oh how He loves us..." The Spirit began to minister healing to each of us. Just when we thought we would continue with our agenda the swell of hope would capture us all again. Intense emotions of joy were so powerful; some wept and some danced. We began to declare the greatness of God. We shouted together, "A miracle God, a miracle God!" Some stepped forward and began to share with everyone words of encouragement and strength.

Finally the Spirit of God spoke through a message with the gift of tongues. The interpretation then came: He was saying that the first time He came He offered hope and strength to the weak. Many rejected it but He did not judge them. They rejected it because they saw themselves as strong. He encouraged us to accept our weakness and trust in His strength alone.
After this a prophetic word was spoken as well encouraging us toward our purpose for existing as a congregation. The Spirit has provided many opportunities and we must step into them now.

It was a great day of encouragement for everyone.

State of the Union

This past Sunday was absolutely awesome! We had the band from The Well leading worship led by Phillip Golden. The Presence of the Spirit of God was really tangible in the room. As we declared the Holiness of Jehovah through song and expressions of worship many received great encouragement.

What followed was an update from Pastor Kent (via video) on the state of the Word Alive family: where we are and where we are going. He inspired everyone with a word about covenant. The American church operates much more from the position of convenience than covenant. We have declared very clearly the "come to the cross" message and many have responded. But Jesus not only called us to the cross but challenged us to "take up" our cross as well (Mark 8:34)

Mrs. Betty Matthews has a newly painted house thanks to those who participated in our latest Community Makeover. Mrs. Matthews is a precious lady who would not have been able physically or financially to have this done. She expresses her thanks to everyone.

This year many lives have been touched by our Community Makeovers. We have covered almost 10 square blocks knocking on doors, mowing lawns, cleaning streets and yards, and painting houses.

Community Makeover

We're getting ready for our next Community Makeover at Word Alive Gadsden! It's scheduled for Saturday, October 3 right here in our local Community. This time around, we're going to be focusing on painting houses in the area. (We have one house from last time that we need to finish up, and plenty of new projects to begin!)

These Makeovers are a lot of fun and are strengthening our partnership with the CIty of Gadsden. If you can make it out, you need to be there! Plan on meeting at the church at 8:00 am to get your assignment for the day. If you already know you'll be there, fill out a Connection Card and indicate on the back how many in your family will participate and any supplies you already have. (i.e., Harris--family of four, 1 ladder & paintbrushes.) This helps us know ahead of time who we have on the roster and what supplies we need to get.

The Art of Hearing God Conference

Coming this October we will be hosting a fantastic conference called "The Art of Hearing God" right here at Word Alive Gadsden! The conference runs Saturday, October 24, and the next Friday and Saturday October 30 & 31. This is an intensive training for those who want to hear the voice of the Lord and to develop greater intimacy with Him. Annointing Service in Gadsden

Wednesday evening, September 9 beginning at 6:30 PM we will have an anointing service focused on the release of the gifts of the Spirit in believers' lives. Mark and Lisa Harris, Site Pastors at the Gadsden campus, have been teaching a series on Wednesday evening for a few weeks now called "Led by the Spirit". This has been an in depth study on the nature of the "will of God" and how to connect with God's intended will for our lives. As a culmination of this teaching, we will have a dedicated time of worship, prayer and prophecy. Join us.

The following are brief summary points from the teaching:

Everything in the universe was created with God's intention/will built into it. (e.g. A tomato seed will never become an apple. God's intention for it is to become a tomato.)

We existed before we were conceived and all our days were known/planned by God before any came to pass. (Psalm 139:16)

There is only one "Will of God" not many. It is good, acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:2).

A coincidence or "coincide - ence" many times is a moment when the will of God and the choice of man connect together perfectly. These little "signs" are like bread crumbs leading us back home to our intended purpose.

God's will is typically more about who we are becoming than what we are doing.

In two distinct places the New Testament is very specific about God's will even stating, "This is the will of God..." (1 Thessalonians 4:3 and 5:18)
Sanctification: which speaks of our position in Christ.
Gratitude: which speaks of our attitude in any circumstance.

FAITH is the most important thing we must possess in order to connect with God's will. (Hebrews 11:6)

Imagination is more effective in connecting us to God's will than our own will power. We cannot will ourselves to do what we cannot imagine.
If I can conceive it, I can believe it.
If I can believe it, I can receive it.
(Mark 11:24)

The gifts of the Spirit were given to build up the body of Christ - to disclose the mysteries of God. These gifts manifested offer encouragement as well as guidance to the believer. (I Corinthians 14)

Randy is such a great help at Word Alive Gadsden. Randy volunteers in many different ways; he volunteers many hours helping to maintain our facilities; he maintains our baptismal waters and opens and closes the building. We really appreciate Randy for being such a great example of love to us all.

We believe these 3 spiritual practices move us all toward a Christ Centered life. As part of our Fast Food Force, we encourage everyone to fast a meal, take the money it would cost for that meal and give it to feed the poor. (See Isaiah 58:6-7)

Each Wednesday we come together to pray corporately at 6:15 pm and we follow that up with another catalyst for growth, engaging in the Bible. Presently Site Pastors, Mark and Lisa, are teaching "Led by the Spirit". They will be sharing personal stories of how the Spirit of God led them through various ministry situations and life decisions. You will recieve practical insights on how to allow the creative intention of God's will to happen in your life. Bible study begins at 7:00 pm.

Brian just came to Word Alive a couple months ago with his family and already has begun to invest himself in the ministry here. More recently Brian was a great help in improving our new "front entrance" by trimming up the trees and shrubbery along with other imporvements to the property. We welcome Brian, his wife Heather and their family to Word Alive Gadsden!

Great Service!!

Our first service back from sabbath at our Gadsden campus was great. We are now meeting in the cafeteria where there is AC (thank you Jesus!). We had a full house. The worship was real and the video message from Neville Johnson was right on. [We had been talking a lot (before we left for sabbath) about how the power of God is manifested in an atmosphere of love and compassion. We all want to see an authentic demonstration of God's power; changed lives, healed bodies, etc. We are the instruments he has chosen to use. I Corinthians 2:4-5 tells us that the Apostle Paul came to the Corinthians with more that just words of wisdom and eloquent speech. He came demonstrating the power of God by the Spirit so that their faith would not "rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God." Neville shared that, just as Christ had compassion on the multitudes and healed many, our compassion is the virtue that activates supernatural helping power for those in need around us. We will be continuing to meet in the cafeteria. We have been given access to other classrooms in the school for nursery and preschool as well as classes for Sunday AM Adult Bible Study (aka Sunday School). Classes will begin Sunday, September 13 at 9:45 and we will be announcing the options for classes in a couple of weeks.

Our Wednesday schedule begins again this Wednesday with Isaiah 58 food preparation. Then next week we will resume prayer and Bible study. Corporate prayer will begin each Wednesday at 6:15 pm and Bible study will follow at 7:00 pm. We are planning some dynamic teaching this fall covering the supernatural work of God. We will deal with; operating in the prophetic, understanding dreams, healing the sick, seeing angels, and other powerful topics like these.

Clean Up for First Sunday Back From Sabbath

In preparation for our first Sunday back from sabbath break, Wednesday evening, August 5, we will be giving our new worship space a little tender loving care. We have moved our services into the cafeteria where we have... air conditioning! Yeh!! We will be cleaning inside and outside. Volunteers can begin showing up as early as 3:00 pm but please feel free to come by whenever it is convenient for you. We hope to complete most of our work Wednesday evening so that we don't have to work on Saturday (knowing that it is tax free weekend!). We will be cleaning, painting, removing debris, etc.

Services Resume Sunday, August 9

2009's sabbath month of rest and renewal has been an opportunity for real refreshment. Sunday, August 9 at 11:00 am we will resume our Sunday services with a renewed excitement for God's purpose being accomplished in our lives together. We return to CONNECT with God, people and purpose.

We have relocated our services from the gym at the former Gadsden High to the cafeteria at the corner of South 12th and Walnut streets. The blessing is that we have air conditioning in this building. We held our last meeting in June here and, though it is much smaller than the gym, it is an ample area for us. As we continue to grow and trust God for our future the anticipation and passion for the work increases.

Services Suspended for the Month of July

During the month of July all regular services are supended. We will resume our service times at the Gasden campus beginning Sunday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m.

Sunday, August 2 we will join with the entire Word Alive family at the main campus in Coldwater. The new Connection facility will be open and we will celebrate together its completion and the return from Sabbath break.

We had such a great time at our last Community Makeover. We have scheduled our next opportunity for Saturday, June 6. We will meet at the corner of South 12th and Walnut to organize and begin the work at 8:30 am. As before, we will be cleaning yards and streets - painting houses, etc.

Isaiah 58 Community Makeover

"And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in." Isaiah 58:12

Our first Isaiah 58 Community Makeover was a great success. Even though we had to postpone the event 1 week due to rainy weather, we still had approximately 50 volunteers available to clean yards and streets and paint houses. We began at 8:00 AM and several workers stayed as late as 6:00 PM to finish the job. Everyone worked so selflessly.

The whole team worked with such unity and many in the community expressed the blessing received and gave God glory. One lady was approached earlier by someone who wanted to charge for mowing her lawn. She was unable to pay for the service. Then the team showed up to offer to mow and clean her yard for free. She was so excited. She kept saying, "It's God. It's God. Only He would do this!"

The team painted the house of an elderly lady who is loosing her eye sight. She said, "I am so glad I can see my house newly painted and beautiful before I am unable to see. Thank you so much." She also was giving God the glory for his love and grace. We are believing, of course, that she will not loose her sight - in Jesus name.

Scott and Lori are valuable volunteers at Word Alive Gadsden. They are so willing to serve in any area where they may be needed. They serve in Isaiah 58 food distribution, with youth, teaching and ministering to the needs of others. They are a great asset to the Kingdom and to Word Alive Gadsden.

ISAIAH 58: Food Distribution

Our distributions of food continue to be a great blessing for those receiving as well as those giving. We had many people waiting up to an hour to be sure to get in for their bags of groceries. The atmosphere is also something that can only be experienced. Words cannot express the spirit of love and unity that is felt.

Thanks to the help of those who contribute to our Fast Food Force, we were able to feed 346 families or 1019 individuals. We had over 100 volunteers who came to greet, register, distribute food, assist with carrying groceries, and pray for those in need. There were 7 who were born again and 2 healed in the name of Jesus. This ministry continues to be such an encouragement to those in need as well as those who choose to serve through it. If you would like to be involved, mark your calendar for out next distribution on Sunday, April 19.

Paul Keith Davis

We are so excited that Paul Keith Davis will be on the Word Alive Gadsden campus tonight at 7:00 PM. We have had some really annointed meetings in Coldwater which began Sunday evening and there is a continued expectation for toinght.

What is Isaiah 58?

Isaiah 58:5-14 states that “the fast is to loose the band of wickedness, to undo heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke.” As you continue to read the Word of God in this portion of scripture we see His character being revealed. We are to fast to be free ourselves, then, He asks, “Now that you have been set free from your bondages, do you not have the responsibility to share your bread with the hungry, and bring to your house the poor who are cast out; and when you see the naked, cover them?” Three great truths have been joined in Isaiah 58 – the discipline of fasting and prayer is united to the ministry of feeding and clothing God’s people through the power of giving. Fasting is directly related to the feeding ministry! This ministry is supported by the gifts of those who fast at least one meal each week as an individual or family taking the money that would be used to buy that meal and donating it to "Fast Food".

In the time it takes you to read this sentence, 3 people will die from hunger.

With each donation of $5 per week 100 pounds of food can be purchased for the poor. That is a powerful investment in the Kingdom of God! Jesus said to the rich young ruler in Matthew 19:21, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

We enjoyed another great time of serving Saturday, January 17. We were able to provide groceries for over 350 families with a force of more than 100 volunteers welcoming, registering, distributing, assisting with food, praying and ministering to the precious families that came for assistance. It is such a joy to be able to minister someone who is struggling by not only providing a necessity of life but offering a loving hug and words of encouragement. There is always a sense that Jesus is standing right there. As two embrace He embraces them both. There is such a strong spirit of excitement in the cafeteria of the former Gadsden High School. It is extremely contagious.

First LifeTrack Reception

Our first LifeTrack Reception at the Gadsden campus was a great success! More than 50 turned out to hear the vision, goal, and mission of Word Alive. We shared a scrumptious meal together (chicken fingers!) and got to meet a lot of new people. We watched a video where Pastors Kent and Bev shared the story of how God brought them to Alabama to build this great congregation. It was very motivating.

We also learned more about the present direction of Word Alive and we heard from Cris Mahy and Jackie Beck as they shared their perspectives on what God is doing in the Gadsden area in this season.

Next week we will continue with "Next Step" as we learn more about the operation and opportunities available at Word Alive Gadsden. That meeting begins at 6:00 pm, Sunday, January 11 in the cafeteria.

Awesome beginning of The WAY (Word Alive Youth) in Gadsden

The Way in Gadsden got off to a great start December 30 with an exciting time of ...you guessed it... "food, fun and fellowship". Actually it was better than that. We had giveaways galore. Everyone left with something - gift cards to local restaurants and department stores, gift baskets, candy, Alabama and Auburn hat and shirts - it was...well... "aaaawesome".

Blake Mayo, Youth Pastor at the Coldwater Campus, spoke to the crowd of more that 50. Others also shared and we learned about how The WAY in Gadsden will begin meeting each Wednesday at 6:00 pm in the gymnasium for prayer, Bible study, and just a lot of fun together!

Youth Gathering

All teens and those interested in working with teens are invited to join us in this "Gathering".
We will be sharing dreams and aspirations for "THE WAY" Youth in Gadsden in the coming year of 2009. We will have music and a special message from Blake Mayo, Youth Coordinator for Word Alive International Outreach. We will also have food and lots of prize giveaways for all teens present. Many of the local merchants have been gracious to donate items for this event such as;

Numerous gift cards to eating establishments such as Ruby Tuesday, Top-O-The River, Logan's, Chili's, Fish Market, Santa Fe Steakhouse, Villa Fiesta, among others.
Numerous gift cards from retail stores such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Sears, JC Penny, The Gap, Areopostale, American Eagle, Books-A-Million, Gold's Gym, a manicure and many more.
Merchandise such as Fragrance Gift Baskets, gourmet food gift baskets. A headphone radio, gourmet candies, clothing from Absolute Fitness, Jewelry, skating passes, hair care products, bowling passes also gifts for the Auburn and Alabama fan as well, etc.

We are going to have a rocking good time bringing in the NEW YEAR!!!

December Food Distribution

WOW! Another great opportunity to minister to those in need. Over 50 volunteers came out to help distribute and minister to the poor Sunday, December 14. Groceries were provided to almost 500 families representing almost 1500 people. Many of those who were helped last month returned with testimonies of God's provision in their lives after they received prayer. Lives were again changed in many ways. We saw many come to Christ for salvation, others healed, and there was even one story of miraculous restoration.

Our next distribution will be Saturday, January 17, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Everyone is welcome to join the effort

Grand Opening A Great Success!

The official Grand Opening of Word Alive Gadsden was filled with great excitement about the future of the ministry in Gadsden. Since we acquired the former Gadsden High School as our new campus much work has be done to beautify the campus and make a home for the ministry. The vision of becoming a Connection Central for ministry in Gadsden is coming into focus and there is an increasing excitement in the hearts of those involved.

Many came out to a special reception which featured an introduction to many of the ministry opportunities available at the new campus. Mayor Sherman Guyton addressed the crowd and spoke of opportunities to partner with the city in revitalizing the community around our new location. It is our hope to partner with the city of Gadsden along with other ministries in the area to establish the Kingdom of God in Etowah county.

First Isaiah 58: Food Distribution a GREAT Success!

WOW! The turn out of volunteers was inspiring and the turn out of those in need was as heart warming. Approximately 60 volunteers came out Sunday afternoon, November 16 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM to distribute food to 294 families representing 1074 individuals. Volunteers helped carry bags of groceries, minister in prayer to those in need and just simply offer a hug with love to every soul.

MUCH PROGRESS!

We have made much progress with the facilities at Word Alive Gadsden. We recently opened up a great new space for Kidz Alive. This week we will have live worship in a spacious room.

We also opened the cafeteria for feeding the hungry. We do not yet have the kitchen functional but the cafeteria is now full of food ready to be distributed to the hungry in Gadsden. A truck load of food was delivered on Wednesday at which time we had approximately 50 people to help load in, sort and bag the food for distribution. We pray that very soon we will be able to prepare hot meals for those who are hungry.

We are making gradual improvements to the gymnasium where we meet for Sunday service each week. The nursery area is looking especially nice.

Do you sing?
We are beginning a Christmas choir. If you would like to participate in this ministry, just be present for rehearsal Wednesday night at 7:00 PM in the choir room which is located above the cafeteria. Worship Leader Heath Jarvis will prepare the choir. We’ll have a great time together!

Grand Opening of Word Alive Gadsden: Sunday, December 7
We will be hosting an official Grand Opening of our facilities at Word Alive Gadsden – inviting the community to come in and experience a service with us and here our vision and purpose. We will begin the day with a reception at 10:00 AM in the cafeteria. We will have coffee and pastries available while we share some of the present and future ministry opportunities at Word Alive Gadsden. Invite your friends and family to join us on this special day.

Wall Street Games

On Thursday, October 30 we partnered with the Etowah Baptist Association's Fall Festival by providing games and candy for children in the Alabama City area. Wall Street was completely blocked off and filled with families enjoying games, music, food, etc. Our volunteers provided opportunities for children to toss bean bags through the mouth of a pumpkin, participate in a hoola-hoop contest or a seed spitting contest. Kids were rewarded with lots of goodies for their bags. We had a great time just loving on families.

Another Great Community Outreach!

Special thanks to all who helped make our second community outreach a success. We gave away over 400 hotdogs and many bags of candy for the kids and youth. We had beautiful weather (thank you, Jesus) and a wonderful time with kids and youth from the neighborhood. This is just a small beginning to the many opportunities that we believe God has given us to minister to the neighborhood and eventually the entire city.

I read recently that the definition of "blessing" is something God gives us for our good and His glory. The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 1:3, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." God is by His own nature a giver and He wants us to join Him in His work so that he can give us something rather than take something from us. This means that to be able to serve is to be able to be blessed.

Don Cousins in his book, "Experiencing LeaderShift", says it this way;

"In all our serving we must maintain the role of beneficiary, and God the benefactor. He has called us to participate in His work in order to give us something - His blessings. That's profound! he calls us so He can give, not take. As Jesus said, 'Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many' (Mark 10:45).

God 'does' for us. And if we fail to respond to His call, we forfeit the blessings He wants to bestow upon us. And who wants to do that?"

Thanks to the many volunteers who came out last week to clean and repair the former Gadsden High School gymnasium. A massive amount of work was done to make this historic place into a worship space for adults and children. The locker rooms, once used by high school basketball players, received an intense cleaning and fresh paint becoming classrooms for nursery and children. Some minor construction repairs, pressure washing, etc. were accomplished to beautify the inside and out. It was a great team effort!

Once the clean-up was finished the gymnasium was converted into a worship space. Our first worship experience in the new facility was powerful!

After the service we moved just outside the gym to Murphree Stadium. Volunteers distributed fliers throughout the community inviting them to join us for free hot dogs and games for the children. We had a great time meeting new friend from the community who were very grateful for the ministry.

It was the beginning of what we know will be a great and mighty display of God's Kingdom in Gadsden. We are so grateful for this extension of the giving caring arm of Word Alive. COME On JESUS!!

Word Alive Gadsden Opens New Campus!

It is true. This Sunday, October 12, Word Alive Gadsden will worship at 11:00 AM in the former Gadsden High School gymnasium located on South 12th and Walnut street. We are so excited about the possibilities regarding our new permanent location. So many have been patient, meeting in various locations throughout the city, as we prayed, searched, and waited on the Lord together. It has been a tempestuous journey since December of 2007 when Word Alive first came to Gadsden ...but a new day has dawned. We now stand on the edge of what is for many, the greatest opportunity of a lifetime - a real opportunity to see the Kingdom of God come (Luke 4:18, Matthew 11:5). It is time - time to see the church be the church.

The vision and mission of Word Alive is expressed in the following;

F Feeding the hungry.
R Recovering the lost.
E Equipping the believer.
E Expressing kingdom life.
D Demonstrating the power of God.
O Opening eyes to destiny.
M Making Jesus famous.

This is the work we are called to... to loose the captives... to lift the heavy burden... to announce, "The Kingdom of God has come!" Tell everybody. Come join us Sunday at 11:00 AM.

Update on Gadsden City High Auditorium

On Friday, September 26, we received word that the Gadsden City school board had denied our request to use the auditorium as a more permanent location for Word Alive Gadsden. Though this was not the news we were hoping for, a new and exciting opportunity has been presented. Pastor Kent would like to share this new opportunity along with a very distinct purpose and vision for Word Alive Gadsden. This Sunday, October 5 at Faith Worship Center in Glencoe Pastor Kent will be present to share the details. Due to a scheduling conflict we will be meeting at 4:00 PM instead of our usual time of 6:00 PM. This will no doubt be an historic meeting that you will not want to miss.

Anointing Service: Sunday, September 28

Anointing services have been a powerful portion of the history of Word Alive International Outreach. Many have received great deliverance and healing at these meetings.
